A Day In the Low-C Life of Chi Chung's Family !

7:30am - Little Kalani wakes up

Rise and shine! As any parent knows, when Bubs wakes up, it's time to get up. Mum and Dad turn on the TV and watch the morning news shows.

The Wongs are very particular about their little precious, so as much as it costs, Mum and Dad believe organic milk is the best option for little Kalani. Yvonne says, "It's just satisfying to know she's not digesting chemicals and that her meals aren't causing the Earth to digest more chemicals either."

Apart from artificial-hormone-free milk, for younger babies the best food for them is their mother's milk. It is natural, full of nutrients and anti-bodies, and of course, didn't have to travel many miles to get to your house.

Talk CO2...

95 percent of the Hong Kong's total consumed food is imported. The issue of food miles - the distance food travels from the time of its production until it reaches the consumer, and is one dimension used in assessing the environmental impact of food-is gaining attention nowadays with the growing awareness on carbon footprint. Let us only consider the transport emission of a bottle of water from Paris to Hong Kong as an example. A 330ml bottle, weighing 565g shipped to Hong Kong via bulk carrier by sea will be responsible for 55g of CO2- not to mention other environmental impacts. If the bottle is shipped by air, it could be accountable for as much as 3kg of CO2! That's why buying local helps keep you carbon-lite.
