A Day In the Low-C Life of Chi Chung's Family !

1:00pm - BB nap time

Chi Chung talks music-sharing
his view on Jack Johnson's work
on climate change

Some quiet time to work: Chi Chung is working hard on his PhD thesis, while Yvonne is busy keeping up with their event organizer and project consultant business, which brings exciting festivals to Hong Kong such as last year's Mediterranean Arts Festival and Latin Passion Festival in 2005. They don't have to go very far for work, so their home office saves on the transport of commuting to a work place.

Good thing about Hong Kong, though, is that we have an exciting array of public transport to take us anywhere we need to go. The best choice, of course, is our efficient and non-pollutant-emitting railway system. The MTR has many features that help save energy, such as an automated control system that keeps energy consumption and air-conditioning at optimum levels, earning it a place in the Climate Change Corp's top 20 Favourite Firms. Almost all taxis and more than half of our minibuses now run on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It's a much cleaner fuel than petrol or diesel and certainly emits much less carbon, so it's not too bad an option.

Talk CO2...

  • Think before you print and try to use both sides of the sheets. For every 10 pages not printed out,
    Cut 1 kg CO2
  • Switch off, don't just log off when you're done. Our computers have evolved past the stage where shutting it down will damage it. A computer running 24 hours a day can produce up to 1 tonnes a year.
    Cut 4 kg per night
  • Switch off the photocopiers. Photocopiers left on overnight wastes enough energy to make 30 cups of tea, so don't forget those photocopiers, scanners, chargers either; get a wall switch so they can all be turned off in one go.
Cut 1.5 kg per item per week
Every year 2000 to 3500 people in Hong Kong die prematurely due to Air Pollution
