Indeed, as much as we seem to hear it about bringing your bag all the time, plastic bags are still one of our city's worst anti-environment habits. Hong Kong has been found to use a shocking 23 million plastic bags filling up our landfills every day.
Even the motherland has recognized this "white pollution": starting from June, free plastic bags will be banned, as is the making and using of ultra-thin plastic bags. Aware that this is a major long-term issue, mainland authorities are encouraging people to bring cloth bags for normal groceries and baskets for vegetables.
